BORRELL

He was born in Barcelona (1948) but it is now more than ten years he is living in the Seu d'Urgell, from where he wanders around the most hidden and humble villages of Catalonia, to capture their particular beauty.

Jaume Borrel's great observation capacity goes together with his ability to shape the spirit of a village, a rural dwelling, a street..., encircling it by a remarkable and vital poetic atmosphere.

The most characteristic feature of his paintings is their capacity to surprise us, within accepted limits, with the most traditional themes of the ever-changing world of art. He feels the artist should be free to express himself and consequently, within the orthodoxy of his work, he seeks to have it acknowledged everywhere.

Characteristic features of his work are: fragmentation of formal elements (as a TV set and other elements he may be combining in the same painting) and how he treats the materials he uses (he works with textures obtained through organic elements with the intention and clear purpose that those looking at his works can do it through sight and touch too).

This suggestive vision of reality in his paintings offers us a mixture of the different colors of facades, old wooden doors, washed laundry in the balconies, faded curtains ... with some lonely bush giving shadow to the doors and balconies, thus, leaving up to the drawing itself to emphasize the structure of the work.

Through the charm transmitted by the villages he paints, his work is praising the need to make timeless both the environment and the people dwelling there.

He has participated in many exhibitions throughout his artistic trail. Amongst others, we may emphasize the exhibitions in Andorra la Vella, Girona, Figueres, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Puigcerdà, Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Lleida...
