Angel Codinach Campllonch was born in Olot on the 11th February, 1922 and passed away on the 21st July, 1995 in Girona.
Angel Codinach's early vocation for painting started to show while he was a child. His always difficult artistic beginnings were favoured by his father, who had a great love of sculpture and was an amateur woodcarver.
Unfortunately, when Codinach was only 13 years old, he died, and this circumstance would definitely condition Codinach's personal life and artistic future trajectory.
For four years he assisted to the Escola de Belles Arts d'Olot (Olot fine arts school), where he studied design and painting under the guidance of artists such as Melchor Domenge, Martí Casadevall, Pere Gussinyé and the sculptor Abel Ferrarons, amongst many others.
In the early 50s he joined the groups Cráter d'Artand Grup de Pintors d'Olot, impelled and managed by Josep Mir and Mas de Xerás, with Dr. Candi Agustí, etc. It was a group formed by over thirty plastic artists, with different tendencies, that longed for a renewal of the traditional trends of the Olotian arts. They did not renege of the glorious artistic past of the Garrotxas capital, but they assumed it was an already well learned lesson.
The group was integrated by several painters, amongst whom, besides the same Codinach, there were Rafael Griera, Joan Clapera i Maya, Joseph Mª Vayreda Canadell, Danés Jordi, the late Frederic Comelles, etc.
They used to gather in a room of the bar La casa del Moro, while they were regularly exhibiting their works in Catalonia. They did it in Barcelona during the years 1954 and 1956.
1954 was also Angel Codinach's presentation, which took place in his native town, at the Sala Armengol.
Later on, he became a member of the group Pintors d' Olot, with Griera, Bataller, Corriola, Gómez and others, exhibiting with them in the 60s, in different Catalan counties, and in Barcelona, Valencia and Bilbao.
Through sponsored trips by the Mundi Art Gallery, of Barcelona, during 1971 and 1972, he visited several towns in Castilla and León. A hard working man, he did not conceive there could be in art any competitive elements, and, therefore, he did not want to participate, at any time, in any artistic contests.
Recently, however, he was awarded the Medalla d'Argent (Silver medal) of the El Prat de Llobregat City Hall.
As already emphasized by Lina Font, Angel Codinach is a landscaper that, inserted into the postimpressionism conceptual trends, is characterized by the liveness of his fingering, the smoothness of his fillings and his clear understanding and original approach to the subject matter of his works. His expressive language skills use a wide chromatic assortment of bright tones, nicely matched with sensible nuances obtained through the superposition of the pigment.
His category within the pictorial centre being well known and accepted, he is being launched with absolute dedication by some persons who are enthused over his work and have managed to make him known practically all over the world. At present, in a discreet but continuous way, our friend Angel's work can be enjoyed in thirty five different countries and in far away places with great cultural differences that allow us to say that, without any doubt, Angel Codinach is a world famed artist. And time will tell.
