JOSEP M. FORCADA

He was born in Barcelona in 1941, but when he was still a child he went to live in Vic where he spent his childhood and youth.

It was there where was first initiated in painting by the hand of his grand-father, Carles Forcada i Sors; later on, he continued with professor Salvador Puntí and, further on, with the painter Fidel Bofill, with whom he learned to transmit light and the peculiar gradation of each different hour of the day without having recourse to the very comfortable chiaroscuro, but through a fine-tuning and enhancement of his painting, in the manner of Joquim Mir's school.

This is why his is a refined painting, of vigorous brushstrokes, that enchants itself in its transparencies, condenses nature and colours each element.

In his paintings the subject matter is light, which unveils each colour: the ochre of the tilled fields, the thick green groves, the scarlet dyed stones, the facades solid white ...

His landscapes are those sceneries with a human dimension, where one can hear his own footsteps: He has found new horizons in places such as Osona, Garrotxa, Empordà, Baix Camp, the Balearic Islands, Castilla, Andalusia, Santorini...

Draftsman, litographer, but also a medical doctor, graduate in sciences of communication, lecturer and a man of a vast social and human culture, whatever he is and does is always impregnated by an ever present plastics incidence.

It is precisely due to this circumstance that his painting accumulates results where research and analysis have a meaning in a painting that does not pretend anything else but to provide his landscapes and geography with the images he has discovered in his many jaunts while managing to communicate a warm and sober description.

Throughout more than fifty years dedicated to painting, he has traveled to many places looking for pictorial subjects: Greek islands, Switzerland, France, Colombia, Venezuela, California, Chile, Italy, Morocco, Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca.

He has exhibited quite often in Barcelona, Zaragoza, Gerona, Tarragona, Sabadell, Olot, Cadiz, Terrassa, Vic and Sant Cugat del Vallès. He has also exhibited, amongst other places, in Seoul, Caracas, Bogota, New York, San Diego, Mexico D.F. and Geneva.
